  • The Art of Custom Residential Engineering

The architectural challenge for this project was to deliver a massive, high-utility footprint that remains structurally fluid and aesthetically cohesive. GDS led the comprehensive design and structural coordination, utilizing a "Hybrid Framing" strategy to support expansive spans and vaulted volumes without compromising the home's elegant proportions.

The design intervention focused on a "Structural Fluidity" strategy:

    • The Grand Social Core: We engineered a sprawling first-floor social hub where the professional-grade kitchen and dining areas open into a double-height Great Room. This layout utilizes strategic structural headers to eliminate unnecessary columns, maximizing natural light and internal sightlines.

    • Integrated Service & Utility: The design includes a precision-framed 3-car garage, providing ample storage and secure access. This utility wing is seamlessly integrated into the home's overall massing, ensuring that high-occupancy requirements do not detract from the curb appeal.

    • Elevated Family Privacy: The second floor is dedicated to a high-utility family program, including a primary suite with a boutique-inspired spa-bath and walk-in closet. Secondary bedrooms were positioned to offer total privacy, connected by a centralized landing that overlooks the main level's social core.

    • Technical Performance & Compliance: The permit sets detail a high-performance building envelope adhering to the 10th Edition 780 CMR. From the precision-engineered foundation with 3,000 PSI concrete to the advanced shear wall schedule for lateral stability, every detail was reviewed to ensure a safe, energy-efficient, and permitted luxury build.

The result is a landmark Medway estate that proves grand architectural ambition is best supported by invisible, high-performance engineering.
