Engineering the Thermal Fitness Experience
The architectural challenge for this project centered on integrating a high-density infrared sauna program within a compact 1,940 SF footprint. GDS led the comprehensive interior design and technical coordination, managing complex HVAC requirements and electrical loads to ensure a safe, high-performance environment that meets strict franchise standards.
The design intervention focused on a "Precision Wellness" strategy:
The Sauna Core: We engineered a layout for ten individual infrared saunas, ensuring optimal spacing for user privacy and equipment maintenance. The configuration maximizes the studio's throughput while maintaining a fluid circulation path for members transitioning between sessions.
Integrated FX Zone: A critical component of the design is the "Functional Exercise" (FX) Zone. This area was strategically positioned to provide a spacious, open-floor environment for supplementary training, supported by specialized rubberized flooring and proximity to the studio's primary social hub.
High-Load MEP Coordination: Fitting ten infrared units into a retail shell required intensive mechanical and electrical engineering. The design includes specialized ventilation to manage thermal output and a high-capacity electrical plan to support the consistent power demands of the infrared technology.
Technical Performance & Compliance: The permit sets detailed strict adherence to the 10th Edition 780 CMR and ADA accessibility standards. From the non-slip flooring in the private shower suite to the precision-planned lighting layout, every detail was reviewed to ensure a safe, efficient, and code-compliant commercial studio.
The result is a premier fitness destination that demonstrates how technical precision can drive a world-class wellness experience.
