La Cantina Winery Expansion

Franklin, MA 7,174 sq. ft.

  • Industrial Sophistication & Production Precision
The architectural challenge for this project centered on a massive expansion of the La Cantina Winery operations. The project required a comprehensive design strategy that balanced the "front-of-house" luxury of a tasting room with the "back-of-house" technical requirements of a commercial winery.

The design intervention focused on a dual-purpose spatial program:

    • The Tasting Experience: GDS designed a sprawling public area featuring a dedicated host station, a custom-detailed bar, and a modern kitchen. The layout includes specialized "Tasting Room" and "Staging" elevations to ensure a premium aesthetic for guests.

    • Production Infrastructure: A significant portion of the floor plan was engineered for technical utility, including dedicated fermentation rooms and storage zones equipped to handle large-scale winemaking equipment.

    • Technical Integration: The Construction Set involved high-level coordination of MEP/FP systems, including fire protection, specialized plumbing for sanitary and vent lines, and complex HVAC schedules to maintain precise climate control for wine production.

    • Site-Wide Compliance: The project included a full life safety plan and ADA/MAAB accessibility documentation, ensuring the 71-sheet permit set met every rigorous standard of the Massachusetts Building Code.

The result is a flagship destination that anchors La Cantina Winery’s presence in Franklin, providing a scalable model for modern, craft-based hospitality.
