Elevated Luxury. Long-term Flexibility.
The architectural challenge at this property was to deliver a massive, high-utility wing that remains structurally fluid and aesthetically cohesive with the original structure. GDS led the comprehensive design and structural coordination, navigating complex demolition and tie-in requirements to create a unified family sanctuary that feels intentional rather than attached.
The design intervention utilized a "Site-Responsive" framework to realize the vision:
Structural Innovation: The project features a robust structural design utilizing 3,000 PSI concrete foundations and an advanced framing schedule. This engineering supports a sprawling new layout including a three-car garage and a vaulted second-story primary suite with a boutique-inspired spa bath and walk-in closet.
Integrated In-Law Program: A key priority was the creation of a private "In-Law" wing. We engineered this space to offer total privacy while maintaining a centralized connection to the main home’s social core, ensuring the residence accommodates multi-generational needs without compromising individual sanctuary.
Architectural Articulation: To ensure contextual harmony, the exterior utilizes traditional New England materiality – refined trim profiles and rhythmic window configurations – that perfectly mirror the existing residence. The result is a landmark addition that maintains a sense of proportion and curb appeal across the entire broadened facade.
Technical Rigor: Developed through a comprehensive "For Construction" set (Revision R1), the project documents every detail from the reflected ceiling plans to the specialized window schedules. This technical depth ensured a seamless build-out and long-term performance for the family estate.
The result is a unified family sanctuary that offers long-term flexibility and elevated luxury through a primary suite and dedicated in-law wing.
