Historic Restoration in Medfield

We loved taking this 1830s New England original and giving it a thoughtful second life. Working alongside Popularis Construction, our goal was to preserve all the historic charm that makes a nearly 200-year-old home special, while completely rebuilding the inside so it works effortlessly for a modern family.

The Architecture of Modern Heritage

The architectural challenge for 10 Noon Hill Road was to preserve the authentic scale and exterior soul of an 1830 structure while entirely re-engineering the interior to meet contemporary living standards and regional building codes. GDS led the comprehensive architectural design to blend period craftsmanship with high-performance execution.

Our design intervention focused on a “Zoned Social Integration” strategy:

• Reconfigured Living Core: We opened up the original tight layout to create a sun-filled, flexible living space anchored by a chef-ready kitchen designed for modern gathering, allowing light and energy to flow naturally across the ground floor.

• Expanded Four-Bedroom Layout: The redesigned interior balances openness with privacy, fitting four generous bedrooms and two full custom bathrooms within the existing ~2,200 SQ FT footprint without sacrificing historic proportion.

• Property and Nature Connection: Designed to maximize its .46-acre setting abutting the Shattuck Reservation, the layout creates a seamless connection between the home’s warm interior spaces and the surrounding trails and winding brook.

• Technical Performance and Compliance: The plans feature full structural updates, brand-new energy-efficient envelope details, modernized HVAC and electrical systems, and precise code compliance, ensuring this early 19th-century classic delivers 21st-century comfort, durability, and low maintenance.

The result is a legacy Medfield residence that honors its 1830 roots while providing a bright, highly functional home designed for modern living.
