Modern Alpine Architecture and Engineering
The architectural challenge for this project centered on engineering a luxury custom home capable of withstanding the rigorous Climate Zone 6 environment. The project required a comprehensive design approach that balanced high-end residential aesthetics with the technical demands of heavy snow loads and energy conservation.
The design intervention utilized a strategic "Zoned Living" approach to maximize the footprint:
Grand Social Spaces: The first floor features a sprawling layout anchored by a massive living room, family room, and open kitchen/dining area, all designed to capture panoramic mountain views.
Integrated In-Law Suite: A significant portion of the ground-level program was dedicated to a fully private in-law suite, including its own laundry, bathroom, and mudroom, ensuring multi-generational comfort.
Technical Resilience: The Permit Set details an advanced thermal envelope meeting the 2020 Vermont Residential Building Energy Standards, featuring R-49 ceiling insulation and stone-veneer-wrapped 2x6 wood stud walls with continuous R-5 rigid insulation.
Structural Precision: Working in collaboration with SSB Engineering, the project integrated a robust foundation system designed for 70 PSF ground snow loads and 120 MPH wind speeds, ensuring the residence is as durable as it is beautiful.
The result is a premier mountain estate that serves as a landmark of modern residential design in the Stowe region.
